Welcome to the website of

Sander Ruys Clavichords

The clavichord was the last of the historical keyboard instruments to set out on its second life in the 20th century.

Now everyone is familiar with the harpsichord and the fortepiano, but the most widely spread instrument in private homes in the 17th and 18th centuries is still fairly unknown. This is a pity, since the clavichord has unique qualities which were much appreciated and optimally used at the time. Even today a great deal of keyboard music from that period is most effective when played on a clavichord. You are very welcome to visit Sander Ruys at his home and judge the quality of his instruments for yourself.

Sander Ruys himself is also a performer on piano and fortepiano. His instruments do not leave the workplace until he is completely satisfied with both action and tone.
